You probably have heard of the mental health conditions bipolar and schizophrenia as well as depression, anxiety, and OCD. You may not have heard of schizoaffective disorder, or if you have you may not know much about it, it’s not one of the mental health disorders that gets talked about too much.

According to the Mayo Clinic “schizoaffective disorder is a mental health disorder that is marked by a combination of schizophrenia symptoms, such as hallucinations or delusions, and mood disorder symptoms, such as depression or mania”.

So you’ve decided to quit drinking, congratulations! The first day you’ll likely feel like shit because you overdid it last night or maybe you’ve overdid it every night for the last week. Expect to feel sluggish, maybe a bit depressed, maybe questioning if quitting is even possible. Go easy on yourself, rest. Treat yourself like you have the flu and drink plenty of water, gatorade, and fruit juices. Have some chicken noodle soup, curl up on the couch with a blanket and a good book. Take a nap.

Am very hurt and angry right now. I go to a mental health clinic every 2 weeks for an injection that keeps my schizoaffective under control. Went today for that appointment and saw the head nurse, as my regular nurse left to work at another clinic. Before they give me my injection they take my vitals; temperature, weight, and blood pressure.

Prior to quitting drinking I weighed 262.7 lbs and when I weighed myself on my home scale today I was 249.8. Since quitting drinking, nearly 4 months ago, I’m down 12.9 lbs which I feel pretty good about.
